About us

At By Mysa, we see architecture and interior design as more than just a built form - it is a unified expression of how live, interact and engage in space.

We strive to craft environments that spark delight and enjoyment, where site context, architectural form and interior design detailing are considered in equal measure as a holistic design solution. We are a dynamic design practice that embodies and epitomises this sentiment through honest and meaningful design outcomes.

Lachlan Dettmer
Director of Architecture

Architecture to Lachlan revolves around the context of each site and how an expression of design can provide an opportunity to not only better its surroundings but provide a moment, a view, or a feeling that encompasses something unique.

Situated in Melbourne throughout his career, Lachlan has gained a wealth of experience working with small, medium and large firms, including Architecton & Baldasso Cortese. His exposure to the high-end residential market has led to a career that has encompassed all stages of projects across typologies including small, medium and high-density housing, as well as retail, childcare, hospitality, commercial typologies, and places of worship.

Mysa

The term Mysa is a Swedish word used to describe a feeling or moment, meaning to be content, comfortable, welcoming, or fulfilled.

Mysa describes relaxing with loved ones, taking time for oneself, basking in the sun, or sitting in front of a fire on a cold winter day. A simple moment of enjoyment captured in time that enriches the human experience, with the celebration of daily life at its core.

Projects “By” Mysa strive to epitomise the sentiment of the word and bring joy to the spaces we inhabit and interact with.

Our story

Founded in 2021, By Mysa was born from discussions around the importance of coupling Architecture & Interior Design in equal measure. Amy and Lachlan had been friends for years, drawing from their wide range of experience across various typologies the decision to embark on a design partnership was the natural progression to their professional careers.
